This weekend we are kicking off our “Fearless Faith” series on the book of Ephesians. In Paul’s letter to the church of Ephesus, he provided a vision of what Christ will do in a community of faith empowered by His Spirit. His words will inspire us and mobilize us just as they did in the first century. Then, as now, we are called to so much more than we can imagine.
There is _________________ for faithful people (Ephesians 1:1-2)
Praise God for the ________ of His _____________ (Ephesians 1:3-14)
- Praise God the Father for His work _________ (Ephesians 1:3-6)
- Praise God the Son for His work __________ (Ephesians 1:7-12)
- Praise God the Spirit for His work _____________ (1:13-14)
What this means for us…
Main Idea: Praise God for His amazing grace and assurance given to us in Christ.
Have you ever won an unexpected prize? Share this experience with your group. How did it make you feel when you won?
How did Paul plant the church in Ephesus (Acts 18:24-28 and 19:1-41)? What was the city like? What was its major religious belief? How does this influence what Paul wrote in this letter?
Read Ephesians 1:1-14. What words are repeated in this chapter? How would you describe Paul’s tone? What Bible words are hard to understand? What are the “spiritual blessings in Christ” that those who know Christ enjoy?
What activities and descriptive words relate to the Father, to Jesus and to the Holy Spirit? What does this tell you about our Triune God? What is the unique work of each member of the Trinity?
How does being “chosen by God” (1:4) relate to our “hearing and believing” (1:13)? Why does Paul say “we obtained” (1:11) and then “you also” (1:13)? Who are the we and the you mentioned here?
What excites you most about God’s spiritual riches in Christ? How do you know if you are “chosen”?
What does it mean that God has “adopted” you and how does this influence the way you see yourself?
How many of these riches have you enjoyed? What changes in your lifestyle will help you live more effectively for the praise of God’s glory this week?
ASSIGNMENT: With your group, memorize Ephesians 1:3. Talk about what God is saying to you from this passage. Invest some time praising God for all of His riches in Christ that we enjoy.
At Stonebridge, we believe disciples should always be growing in faith. Growing means changing, learning, sharing, giving. And step by step blessing others along the way. There are many options for your next step…
