Read Colossians 3:1-11. How does verse 12 link to the first eleven verses and provide motivation for why we should put on these virtues? What questions/observations do you have about the phrases “God’s chosen one” and “holy and beloved”?
Read Colossians 3:12-17. What instructions does Paul give related to the virtues we are to put on? How can these qualities help us to know God and experience Him in a fulfilling way? How is Christ our ultimate example of how we are to relate with others? Why is it a challenge for Christians to do life together well?
The virtues Paul lists are similar to the fruit of the Spirit found in Galatians. Read Galatians 5:22-26. What role does the Holy Spirit have in developing the qualities in Colossians 3:12-13 in your life? What biblical examples can you think of where these virtues were demonstrated?
In verse 15, what do you think it means, “let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts”? Read John 14:27. Is there anything you have found that helps you to have the peace of Christ?. How is the peace of Christ unique and different from any other kind?
Read Ephesians 5:15-21. What similarities do you find in this passage with what Paul writes to the Colossians? As we begin a new year, what are some ways you can let the Word of Christ dwell richly in your heart?
Read Ephesians 4:29-32. What can you learn about forgiveness? Why is forgiveness so important in developing and maintaining healthy relationships?
