“Grace Church” – A Series on Romans 12-16
The gospel of Christ not only brings good news of God’s grace for undeserving people, it also transforms the way we relate to each other and our world
Title: “How to Please People”
Summary: We must sacrificially please others for their good and God’s glory, because we too were the weak whom Christ welcomed in at great cost to Himself
Key Scripture: Romans 15:1-13
So, you think you are “strong”? Then, you are obligated to please others, not yourself. (1)
What does it look like to please others? (2-6)
- For GOOD: Serve for another’s good to build them up in faith (2)
- With PAIN: Suffer like Christ in your love of others (3)
- Fueled by HOPE: Stay in the Scriptures in order to endure with hope (4)
- Goal of GLORY: Live in harmony to glorify God in worship (5-6)
How do you please others when you are worn out by the pain and sacrifice it causes? (7-13)
- Live by the PLATINUM Rule (7)
- See that everyone is WEAK and needs Christ’s mercy (8-12)
- God’s Point: See yourself as a BEGGAR beloved by God (13)

What did you take away from this message on Romans 15:1-13? What was convicting? What was encouraging?
Why do people think they are cool? What makes us think we are the “strong” in our social groups? What makes us think others are the “weak”?
What is the difference between being a people-pleaser and pleasing people for their good and God’s glory? Which one did Christ do? How did He display this?
Why is it important not to think of yourself as the “Strong” in the Christian faith? Why does focusing on the glory of God change the way you think of yourself and others?
Which one of the aspects of pleasing others for their good is hardest for you to put into practice? (GOOD: serving people to build up their faith. PAIN: Suffering to love others. HOPE: Staying in the Scriptures to be refueled. GLORY: Having the right goal of glorifying God.) How will you make steps to change this?
Think about one person at work, school or church who is a Christian you normally wouldn’t feel excited to hang out with. Pray for humble grace to welcome them into your life. Invite them to get lunch or hang out. Sit with them at church. Share about this with your LIFE Group and ask if you can invite them into your group.
