Empty Tomb: Resurrection

Empty women find ___________  ________ at the cemetery (Luke 24:1-12).

The empty tomb ____________  ______________ (Acts 2:22-24).

  • Is it true (1 Corinthians 15:3-7)?
  • Why is it important (1 Corinthians 15:12-19)?
  • What does it mean for me (Hebrews 9:27-28; 1 Corinthians 15:58)?

Main Idea: The resurrection shows the Bible is true and makes skeptics into witnesses.

Talk with your family or LIFE Group about your memories of Easter. As you were growing up, what family traditions did you observe? What was meaningful to you about it?

In many ways, Christianity stands or falls on the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Do you agree with this statement? Why or why not? What does the resurrection prove (see Romans 1:4)?

Read Luke 23:44-56 to review Jesus’ death and burial. What role do the women play in Jesus’ burial? How would they feel as they walk to the tomb? What emotions do you think they experienced when they found it empty (24:1-3)?

Why do you think angels are a part of this story (see Matthew 28:2; Mark 16:5)? How did the women respond when they saw them? What did they say to the women (24:5-7)?

How do the 11 apostles respond to the women’s report (24:9-11)? Why didn’t they believe them? What do you think Peter was thinking as he ran to the tomb and saw it empty (24:12)?

What compelling evidence do we have that the resurrection of Jesus Christ is true?

According to 1 Corinthians 15:12-19, why is the resurrection important to us?

What difference does Jesus’ resurrection make to your life and the way you live?

ASSIGNMENT: As a family or LIFE Group, memorize Luke 24:6-7. Discuss the angel’s words and how the resurrection of Jesus shows that God’s promises are true. Make a list of the people in your life who feel “empty” and pray they will discover how Jesus can fill them with fresh hope

Easter is just around the corner!  We see colorful eggs, delicious candy and cartoon bunnies everywhere, but the real meaning for celebration is often lost.

Let’s change that.

In the last two weeks, more than 6,000 invitations have gone out to our community through the Saturate bag deliveries inviting people to Stonebridge for Easter.  Will you join in this effort to invite people to hear and celebrate the true meaning of Easter?
