At Stonebridge, dedication is truly a “family event.” Child dedication is one of the ways we recognize that children are a gift from God and a time where our entire church family comes alongside parents to pray for them and support them on their parenting journey.
At our dedication service, parents give their child back to the Lord for whatever purpose God may have for them. Parents promise to pray for their children and commit to being an example of a devoted follower of Jesus. They are saying they depend on God’s grace to raise their children to know and love Christ. In dedicating their child, a parent publicly testifies that they desire their child to know Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord at an early age.
We know parenting is a high calling, and that’s why during the dedication service, the congregation of Stonebridge will also stand and pledge to pray for the parents and their children. We promise to walk alongside both the parents and their children as they take their next steps with Jesus.
When we dedicate our children, we are not saying that we are imparting salvation upon the child and we do not see this practice on the same level as baptism or the Lord’s Supper.
