Many people today are feeling overwhelmed. Are you one of them?
The agony of being afflicted (Psalm 102:1-11)

What next steps can you take when you’re overwhelmed?
What one thing spoke to your heart the most from the Word of God in these Scriptures?
Has there ever been a time in your life when you believed God was hiding His face from you? What were the circumstances and what did you do?
Read Psalm 102. In the first two verses what observations can you make how David approached God? When you’re feeling overwhelmed is prayer your first choice, or your last resort? What does God encourage us to do in Jeremiah 33:3?
Read Psalm 102:3-11.How does the psalmist describe his spiritual, physical, emotional and social condition in these verses? What observations can you make? How does relying on God’s promises help when you’re feeling overwhelmed? Share a promise of God that’s especially meaningful to you.
Read Psalm 102:12-17. Did you notice how the psalmist’s perspective changes in these verses? Why? A.W. Tozer said, “What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us.” Do you agree, or disagree?
Read Psalm 102:18-28. Why does the psalmist recommend telling future generations about God? What has God done that future generations need to know? What are some ways you can let future generations know what God has done in your life?
We live in an instant everything society and often want instant results from God. God doesn’t always answer quickly because He wants to develop patience and endurance in us. What does the Bible say about endurance and patience? (Romans 5:3-5; James 1:2-4).
When you are afflicted, overwhelmed, or distressed do you feel free to express it to God, or to a friend? Or do you bear it all alone? Does your group know of someone who is feeling overwhelmed, lonely, or afflicted in some way? What can you do to help?
How can your personal faith story be beneficial to future generations? (Psalm 102:18) If you haven’t already done so write out the story of how you came to know Christ and share your story with someone this week.
