The Gospel at Work

For the past six weeks on Sunday mornings, we've been diving into "The Gospel at Work," exploring how the truths we celebrate together on Sunday apply to the daily grind of our workweek. We've tackled topics like "True Success", "Balance" and "Witnessing in the Workplace". Each week we have been reminded that the gospel of Jesus changes everything which means that we are called to be obedient to our calling as Christians in our words and actions - even when it means stepping out in boldness and taking risks.

A great example of this came back in September, Aaron Aamodt shared a bold step he took—inviting his coworkers to study the Bible together over lunch.

“I had been praying for my coworkers for a while but wasn’t sure how to move beyond the occasional lunch conversation that sometimes touched on faith,” Aaron said. “As I kept praying, I felt led to ask if they’d like to read the Bible together. I sent out a text, and to my surprise, a few said they were interested! We started with the book of Mark. And as an extra praise, one coworker mentioned that I was the third friend to reach out to her about ‘Jesus stuff’ recently. It’s amazing to see how God was already pursuing her!”

The group officially began meeting on September 18, 2024, and recently, we checked in with Aaron to see how things were going.

“There are about 3-6 of us meeting each week over lunch, and we’re continuing through Mark—though we’re almost done and considering Romans next. It’s been so sweet to read Scripture aloud together and share what we see about God and ourselves in the passage. I love hearing their observations. One guy pointed out that Jesus used mostly seed/plant parables throughout Mark 4—something I had never noticed before! Another coworker, who has struggled with past church hurts, resonated deeply with Jesus’ words in Mark 7 about elevating man-made traditions over God’s Word. It’s incredible to see how Scripture speaks uniquely to each person.

How encouraging to see Aaron stepping out in faith, trusting God to do the work in his coworkers' lives! Let’s join him in praying that God’s Word would take root in their hearts, that they would rely on Jesus alone for salvation, and that God would guard them from viewing faith as just works and religion.

I have to admit that I am frequently tempted towards discouragement when ministering the gospel to others given my desire to see change happen (a good thing) on my timeline (a not so good thing) and also with my specific strategies at play (a good and bad thing). There are counseling situations that are so complex and require the “long haul” perspective, that is, setting aside a desired or forced timeline to finish the counseling season to trust increasingly in the Spirit to work at some undefined time in the future. So how do we navigate these types of situations with faithfulness?

A Growth Group is 2 to 4 women meeting regularly with openness and vulnerability, to encourage one another to grow in becoming more like Jesus. They are designed for women to talk with one another about how what they are learning is directly impacting, challenging, and encouraging them in their walk with Jesus. It is so encouraging to hear how women’s lives are being transformed by these intimate groups filled with sisters in Christ spurring each other on.
