In baptism, we are publicly declaring our belief in, and commitment to Jesus. It’s a step of obedience ordained by Christ. In short, baptism is our response to salvation, showing we intend to live a new life, as we turn from sin and choose to follow Jesus.
The symbolic meaning is explained in Romans 6:1-4 and is best portrayed in baptism by immersion. When a person goes under the water, he/she identifies with the death of Christ. To come up out of the water is symbolic of the resurrection of Christ out of death. The person is “acting out” his or her “death to sin” and subsequent new life in Christ. Baptism is one of the two ordinances commanded by Christ and is an act of obedience (Matthew 28:18-19).
Although Stonebridge Church believes in water baptism, it is not a requirement for church membership.
Outdoor Baptism Service:
Join us for a special outdoor baptism service on Sunday, June 24 at 10 AM. Bring a lawn chair and help us celebrate with 21 people who are taking this next step in their walk with Christ. Stay after for a time of fellowship and refreshments in The Bridge. Bring your kids, your friends and your sunscreen to this exciting celebration. All are invited!
This service will be our only service on Sunday morning. Our regular Saturday night service will be held at 5 PM indoors as usual. We will not be providing childcare for Stonebridge Kids ministry during the baptism service. Families are encouraged to participate in the service together.
