Connecting Through Prayer

by Melissa Hoyt

Our lives are full of connecting with our families, our spouses, and our children.  We talk to them and spend time with them. There are many ways to connect with those around us, but one of the greatest ways is through Prayer!  We have a daily opportunity to connect with the creator of the universe on behalf of those around us.  And as we connect to God this way, He draws us closer to Himself.

Do you connect with those around you through prayer?  Just as prayer draws us closer to God; it can also draw us closer to each other.  As we pray for those around us, God often allows us to see Him working in amazing ways through those closest to us.

One way to start connecting through prayer is by using your Bible.  Praying God’s Word for those who are closest to you in life is a way to connect to those around you and also draw closer to your Savior.

How can you do this? Where do you start?  Well, do you already read the Bible daily?  If you don’t, try to get in the habit of opening God’s Word even for a short time every day to be able to glean the great wisdom that comes from God’s Word.

Then when you are in God’s Word, start by praying through verses that you encounter.  Pick out pieces of the verses that talk about God’s character. Pray about how God can work through those you know in regards to these verses.  Pray that they would see who God is through their life that day.

Let’s try it with Psalm 95:6:  “Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the LORD, our Maker!”

That’s a simple verse packed full of things to pray about.  Pray for your child or your spouse that they would worship God today and see Him as worthy to be praised.  Pray they would bow their knee to God throughout all of the daily challenges they will face.  Pray they would acknowledge God and see God as their Creator today!

So what’s stopping you from connecting through praying God’s Word today for your child, your spouse, or your other family members?  Another way to encourage those you are praying for is to tell them you are praying for them and what verses you prayed for them that day!

Here are a few other examples of how to pray for your family:

What a privilege we have to connect to our families through praying God’s Word for them.  Start today by seeing how God works through prayer!  May God’s Word encourage you to connect through prayer:

1 Thessalonians 5:17-18 “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing,  give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”

James 5:16 “Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.”
