Who is my neighbor? Jesus talks about who a “neighbor” is in Luke 10:25-37. In verse 27, Jesus says, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.” Jesus goes on to tell the parable of the good samaritan and how we are to show mercy to our “neighbor”.
We have many “neighbors” right now in our own community searching for something in life. How are you doing with reaching out to your neighbor and showing them God’s love this summer?
I have seen Stonebridge church reaching out to their neighbors at our first two Backyard Bible Clubs in Atkins and Fairfax. Three summers ago, we went into our surrounding neighborhoods and created Backyard Bible Clubs. We started with two clubs and this summer we have the opportunity to offer four different clubs in our surrounding community.
God wants us to engage with our neighbors. It is so exciting to see that God is using Backyard Bible Club to help us engage with our community. We are bringing a fun, safe, gospel centered program to our neighborhood kids instead of expecting them to come into our church building which can be quite intimidating at first for many. These clubs provide a way for our community to see us serving their kids and sharing the love of Christ.
A Backyard Bible Club is a great way to invite friends to a fun summer activity and an opportunity for them to hear about God’s love and the gospel. This is a great way to engage with your neighbors and a great way for our church to love on our community to provide a safe, fun, club for kids during the summer.
This year in our clubs so far, we have seen that 50% of the children that are attending are not from Stonebridge! God has given us an avenue to encourage our Stonebridge Kids AND our community. I have heard parents thank us for doing clubs and providing a fun, Christ centered program for their children.
Thank God with us that He is using Stonebridge to love on our community. Look for one way this summer to bless your neighbors in your own community. We are blessed with knowing the hope of Jesus Christ. Let’s go out and spread God’s love to our neighbors!
