“Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.” James 1:27
I walked into church one Sunday morning and noticed a lady carrying a new baby. Knowing that she hadn’t just given birth to this child, a smile came across my face–this family had just received a new foster child! A few months later this same scenario played out again with another family walking into church with a new child. And not long after that, yet another family walked into church with additional children. This family had taken children into their home through Safe Families and was caring for them temporarily while their parent was unable to.
Did you know that Stonebridge Church is becoming more involved in the life of the orphan through Safe Families, foster care, and adoption? Stonebridge Church has been caring for our neighbor as never before by opening up our lives to orphans and vulnerable children.
The most common response I get when I talk to someone about caring for an orphan or vulnerable children is “I could never do that”. I believe everyone can play a part in the life of an orphan or vulnerable child. God has a heart for the orphan and widow and calls us to help in one way or another. I know that whatever God calls us to, He gives us the ability and strength to do it through His Spirit.(Click here to Tweet) Does that mean it will be easy? No! It may be the hardest thing you will ever do, but it will be worth it!
Maybe God is prompting you to explore the option to take an orphan into your home, or maybe not. Wherever you are at in your spiritual journey, God has called all of us to care for the orphan and vulnerable child.
Is God calling you to take a child into your home? Pray about Safe Families or Foster Care.
